Pure Brightness is the third healing painting series Zhang created, following Grain in Ear in Beijing (2022) and Autumn Equinox in New York (2023). This series is inspired by Zhang’s month-long stay in Reykjavik, Iceland. From the soft pastel streets and the quietness of the city to the cool coastal breeze and colorful skies, Zhang encountered numerous peaceful and meditative moments. These experiences are reflected in Pure Brightness, capturing her relaxed mind and body during that time. As she continues this "healing" project, she plans to expand these paintings into large-scale 2D installations that encapsulate the unique qualities of Iceland.
