In 2022, as the world gradually returned to normal from the pandemic, Zhang remained isolated in her Beijing apartment, enduring COVID tests every 72 hours for the third consecutive year. This isolation forced her to confront life’s fragility. She focused on healing, treating it as a daily, almost religious routine. Behind concrete walls, windows became her only connection to the outside world. The paintings in this series are inspired by the scenes she observed through her windows, reflecting both the confinement and the yearning for connection during this challenging period.
